Low-ranked models are mostly older cars with large numbers still on the road: age, mileage and maintenance explain more than the badge. Source: RSA 2025 Make and Model Data, initial tests only.

Frequently asked questions

Which car is most likely to pass the NCT?

Among models with at least 5,000 tests in 2025, the Toyota C-HR had the highest first-time pass rate (80%), followed by the Škoda Kodiaq (77%).

Which car fails the NCT most?

The Peugeot 207 had the lowest first-time pass rate among widely tested models (32.5%). These are mostly older cars still in large numbers on Irish roads.

Is it fair to compare makes?

Only partly. A make with a younger fleet in Ireland will look better than one whose cars are mostly 12 to 20 years old. Compare cars of the same year on each model page for a fairer picture.
