Frequently asked questions

How is the NCT due date worked out?

From the date of first registration: first test at 4 years, then every 2 years until the 10th anniversary, then every year. Cars 30 to 39 years old (non-commercial) go back to every 2 years, and cars over 40 are exempt.

Can I do my NCT early?

You can test up to 90 days before the due date without changing your renewal date. Testing more than 90 days early is a voluntary early test and can move your next due date.

Why is my real due date different?

If the car was tested late, failed and was retested, or was tested early on purpose, the certificate dates can shift. The official due date for your registration is on the NCTS "Check NCT due date" tool.

What about imported cars?

Imported cars have their own rules, depending on age and where they were first registered. Check the NCTS FAQ for your case before relying on this calculator.
